With cold and frigid temperatures coming their way or already hitting your neck of the woods, here are some easy remedies that fight against the worst winter has to offer. Issues like dry scalp, red nose, chapped lips, flaking nails and cracked skin can easily be prevented or diminished! These tips, products and simple remedy suggestions will keep you comfortable and beautiful this winter season!

Dry, parched skin
When your skin feels extra parched, get some extra virgin olive oil and combine it with your moisturizer! These two things together, which can be applied all over the body, really double up as a repairing hydrator for cold, and wind bitten skin. Apply to elbows, feet and hands, and anywhere you're feeling flaky, itchy and dry. Olive oil is an amazing multi-tasking product and of course, natural!  It's a natural source of fatty acids and antioxidants for the skin also, so you're improving the health and the hydration of your skin. As for your moisturizer, I would suggest Ultra Repair Cream by First Aid Beauty ($12.00) to mix with your olive oil. This moisturizer is non-greasy, has exceptional penetration, provides immediate relief, visibly improves skin hydration, packs antioxidant boosters to defend the skin and is free of parabans, harsh chemicals or colorants!

Red nose and cheeks:
So you may be asking, why do your nose and cheeks turn bright red in the cold?  The redirection of blood flow occurs in cold temps. Your blood vessels constrict and redirect blood flow to your organs, reducing blood flow to your extremities, including your nose and cheeks. There's nothing you can do to stop your body's natural reaction to cold, nor would you want to, but you can hide the effects!

1.) Apply a primer in a green tint to the areas of the face you expect to get red, try Smashbox Photofinish Color Correcting Primer in Green ($39.00). You'll apply this to your nose and cheeks.
2.) Apply a foundation over this with some protective qualities. Try Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover ($36.00). This foundation has some serious staying power, and is un detectable. So it won't look like you have extra foundation on your nose or cheeks.
3.) Last, spritz this with a fix it spray, like Make Up Forever's Mist and Fix  ($29.00), this will keep your makeup in place on those problem areas, and make it unmovable by wind or snow, and even rub resistant.

Winter Bitten Lips:
You can layer up all you want, but usually your lips still are exposed to the cold! This can result in chapped lips, peeling lips, or flaking and painful lips. Licking your lips when they get like this even makes it worse because when your saliva evaporates, it dehydrates your lips even further. Try this remedy to put a end to this annoying and sometimes painful effect of winter on your lips.

1.) At night, apply a sugar scrub like Fresh Sugar Lip Polish ($22.50) and Olive Oil to the lips and buff gently with your fingertips. Fresh Sugar Lip Polish is better than just regular old sugar. The formula is enriched with real brown sugar crystals to gently buff away dry flakes. It nourishes the lips with the oils of meadowfoam seed, jojoba seed, and grapeseed while shea butter and your added olive oil to the mixture provides long-lasting moisture. This is sure to help your cracked, flaked lips get back to normal.
2.) At night, after you've completed this buffing treatment, apply Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask to your lips ($26.00). This soothing, leave on lip mask deeply replenishes your lips moisture naturally with a bio-active blend of organic agave nectar, jojoba oil, vanilla CO2 extract, and triple the amount of antioxidant trans-resveratrol found in red wine.
3.) Last, during the day when you go out apply a protective balm like Rosebud Perfume Co.'s Rosebud Salve ($6.00). This will protect your lips from the cold! It is a multipurpose deeply moisturizing balm. Versatile and comforting to skin, it calms and heals irritation, soothes the sting of minor burns, helps heal cuts, even tames mangled cuticles, helps fix ashy elbows and knees, and minimizes diaper rash. The slight hint of rose scent adds a delicately aromatic touch without overpowering. And, it's affordable!

Dry, cracked, nails, hands and cuticles:

Moisture loss is the number one reason for cracking, and flaking in your nails, hands and cuticles! Avoid dry, harsh, chemical heavy hand soaps like the plague. Wear gloves of course, and check out these easy remedies!
1.) Exfoliate your hands with a moisture rich product, like KP Duty Dermadoctor Body Scrub. This can be used all over the body, including dry, flaking hands. This dual-action exfoliator combines the benefits of a chemical peel and a microdermabrasion into a single, easy-to-use formulation. Dermatologist approved, tested and created. ($46.00)
2.) Apply a heavy dose of Endless Glove by Soap & Glory after you exfoliate ($22.00). This is a moisture mask for your hands! It's formulated with EIGHT-OIL AQUA-WRAP™, VITAFADE-BC™, macadamia and grapeseed oils, and pomegranate and shea butters. This two-in-one moisturizing mask and hand cream lays down a velvety smooth moisture barrier that works for up to 12 hours after you apply it. Use it after exfoliation and as a day remedy.
3.) As for your nails, apply a moisturizing treatment to your cuticles like Creme Abricot Fortifying Cream for Nails by Dior ($26.00). Created in 1963, Dior's "Cult-favorite Magic Multi-tasker" is the key to healthy, non flaking nails. This creamy salve encourages nail growth, improves nail strength, and conditions cuticles. It can be massaged into the base of nail pre- or post- polish.
4.) Last, apply a fortifying nail polish like Deborah Lippman's Hard Rock Hydrating Hardener Polish ($20.00). This is a multitasking, quick drying, strengthening base and top coat. A rock solid choice to strengthen and protect, this polish encourages healthy nail growth. It is formulated with special strengthening ingredients. Nails will look and feel noticeably longer and stronger in a few short weeks. It’s especially beneficial for weak nails or those damaged by gel and artificial nail removal.

Dry sclap and dry, frizzy hair

While in winter, all hair becomes parched and frizz while dyed, bleached and curly hair suffer the most. No matter your hair type, it's a great idea to treat your hair one a week in order to keep it moisturized and less damaged.  Wear a hat in the rain or snow if possible also. As for your scalp, a simple oil treatment can go a long way!
1.) Apply a hair and scalp oil at night, like Agave Oil Treatment ($40.00) Restore and rejuvenate unmanageable, frizzy hair with the hydrating and color-restoring sugars of the agave plant. Unlike heavy nut oils, this plant extract conditions hair with a light touch, building strength and resiliency, while helping boost vibrancy and color. Other natural botanicals like coconut, vanilla, sunflower, and safflower are blended with madagascar baobab seed oil to nourish and transform hair’s outer layer and the scalp. Wash out with water after 15-20 minutes.
2.) After your oil, also apply a reparing mask like Living Proof Restore Mask ($42.00) which you can sleep in. This is an intensive weekly treatment that nourishes each strand, increasing strength and manageability, leaving hair soft, shiny and smooth. 3.) For your day treatment, shampoo and condition your hair with moisture rich ,and repairing  products like Living Proof Restore Shampoo ( $28.00), and Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Conditioner ($24.00).  These products are weightless, nourishing shampoo and conditioners that deliver the five benefits for beautiful, healthy hair—smoothness, volume, conditioning, strength, and polish.
