Review on Dove Elixir Hair Oil in Rose & Almond

Dove Elixir Hair Oil in Rose & Almond

So I purchased the much talked about Dove Elixir Hair Oil in Rose & Almond. It comes in a glass bottle with a pump at the top. The packaging in itself is a showstopper; with it's gorgeous pink oil inside and the beautiful real flowers in the bottle or the aromatically fragrant oil!

So it lives up to its ‘not an oil’ category with regards to the packaging. Now comes the quality part of it.

The oil, sorry, ‘elixir’ is lightweight and fragrant when you take it in your palm; it vanishes in a few minutes leaving a fragrance and an oily sheen behind.

Being very lightweight, you need to apply oodles of the oil so it can feel ‘oily’ on your hair and you actually feel like having applied oil in your hair. That is how I finished more than half of the bottle in just 4-5 applications so far. So if you are planning to drench your hair in some hydrating oil overnight before a hair wash, then this is not for you.

The oil has 2 ways of application: one before hair wash and the other after hair wash. I have never used it after hair wash, from fear that it may weigh down the hair. The problem I faced with this is that the Dove Elixir is not oily enough for using before a wash and not non-oily to use as a serum post a hair wash. If you’d know what I mean, the oil is just somewhere in the middle.

I have not noticed any proven change in the texture or quality of my hair, post its use, so I wouldn't say that it’s a miraculous hair oil. Also it says it’s a ‘Hair Fall Rescue’, but I have not seen any noticeable improvement in that either.

Overall the Dove Elixir is good for a one time try, but it’s certainly not the best bet when it comes to soaking my hair in a nourishing hair oil once a week.

Also, since it has real flowers and petals in the bottle, I have had issues, when the pump sucked up some of them and stopped working immediately after. I have since been pouring it directly in my hand (not the way it was intended, so they need to do something about the flowers or the pump)!

My suggestion would be to try it once, or better still keep it as a show piece on your dressing table due to its good looks.

Packaging: Looks beautiful in a pump glass bottle (but not travel friendly)

Price: 90ML for Rs 185 (Fairly priced)

Quality: Very light weight & non sticky; but not a life changing hair oil

Repurchase: No

Overall: 3/5
