REVIEW: Hard Candy Aphrodisiac Eyeshadow Palette

I usually don't go for drugstore palettes, but this one caught my eye. I needed a palette with some bright colors because I ran out of one of my vibrant, older Urban Decay palettes and decided to give the Hard Candy "Aphrodisiac" Eyeshadow Palette a try. This is part of Hard Candy's "Top Ten Trendsetters" palette line, and "Aphrodisiac" features some fun neon tones and a few shimmery neutrals so you get to try out the best of both worlds from the line.

Brand's Official Product Description: "Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetter Palette Eyeshadow is an eyeshadow collection of fashion-forward colors in a chic, fabric mirror compact. The collection features an extraordinary range of shades, with matte, shimmer, glitter, and metallic finishes."

My Personal Product Description: This palette is an affordable eyeshadow collection that features both fun neons, and natural tones that are wearable, mixable, and have great pigmentation and staying power for the price. Great for summer and spring with sparkly and matte tones in vivid shades for the beach, or a festival along with natural shades for dates or nights out.

Ingredients: Talc, Mica, Magnesim Stearate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Mineral Oil, Parrafinum Liquidium/Huile Minerale, Polybutene, Isododecane, Isobutylmethacrylate/Bis-Hydroxypropl Dimethicone Acrylate Copolymer, Petrolatum, Pehnoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polyethylene Terephthalate. Not Tested on Animals.

Packaging: This palette comes in a sturdy, hard plastic rectangle complete with mirror on the inside. The package itself is very cute and this one in particular is made with faux purple leather on the outside and silver metal studs. On the inside two foam applicators are also included, which I never personally use because I prefer a brush but still that's a nice addition. Overall the packaging is strong, cute, trendy, useful, functional and has some nice additions. 5/5

Price: This product is very affordable! At only about $6.00 for 10 different shades that I would consider decent quality - you really can't beat the price. Is this palette an Urban Decay, Smashbox or Makeup Forever palette? No. However it's still very pigmented, useful and works very well for a measly 6 bucks! Definitely worth a try and a great bargain for anyone in need of some new shades in a pinch. But don't get me wrong, they truly do hold up especially with primer!  5/5

Accessibility: Very easy to find! Available at Walmart and online! 5/5

Tones/Shades: This product includes 10 eyeshadow shades. They don't have names unfortunately, however they are as follows. Ultramarine Blue ( Matte ), Violet ( Matte ), Black ( Sparkly ), White ( Opalescent/Shimmer ), Taupe ( Shimmer ), Neon Yellow ( Light Shimmer ), Neon Orange ( Matte ), Light Peach ( Matte ), Green ( Matte ), and Teal ( Matte ).  This palette is perfect for summer because it has so many look variations and combo possibilities that would be appropriate for the beach, festival, summer date, vacation or a night out. The tones when applied are true to tone, especially the Black Sparkly shade. The only two shades I had to really press into to get a true tone were the White ad the Light Peach but I am very very pale so is was probably due to my skintone. 4/5

Smell: No scent!

Blendability: I was fairly surprised with this palette. Although it's just 6 bucks, it still really gets the job done and stands up to vigorous brush blending easily. The colors melt into each other when applied and other brands as well if you wish to itermix. No issues with blending, no caking, creasing, flaking or melting when applied. The pigments were smooth, and did what I needed them to do.  5/5

Product Texture: These shadows are caked eyeshadows, and do not flake, melt, or crease. Even the black shade with sparkles held in place easily and was not difficult to control or apply. These are dry shadows and will work best when used over top of an eyeshadow primer, but that's any dry shadow. Great texture overall! They really are true to tone and do not require extra work to get them to show up as they look inside of the palette. 5/5

Product Performance: This palette is a steal for the cost. I would again, suggest using a primer with these but that's most eyeshadow palettes. All of the tones stay true to tone, are easily applied, blendable, don't flake and are a nice texture. With a primer they would stay on all day. You can create a multitude of looks with this palette because the shades taken from all over the spectrum. Easy to put in a purse, whip out and apply on the go as well due to the mirror. 5/5

Special Features of this Product: No Animal Testing, Includes Mirror

Travel Size: Yes

Can you use for HD Film Use/TV?: I wouldn't use this product alone on an HD film set. Use an HD eyeshadow primer and spray with setting spray and you should be good to go!

Can you use for everyday Use?: Yes, this product is versatile and you could easily create fun, exciting looks daily with it with no issue.

Tips and Tricks with this product: Apply Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion to the eyes, then your favoite shades from this palette to create a look that has some serious holding power WHILE saving yourself about 50$. You'll get a look close to the quality of Urban Decay without the extra cost.

Overall Review: If you're looking for an affordable eyeshadow palette with tones that range from alittle bit of everywhere on the color spectrum this is a great introducery palette that preforms. It's affordability makes it easy on the wallet yet the pigments are quality and almost look like a 60$ palette! Add a professional primer before use to really get your money's worth. Carry this Hard Candy palette in your purse for travel and easy application. Perfect for summer looks and versatile enough to give you hundreds of ideas for your next look.  5/5
