Punk's Not Dead: Punk Makeup Looks To Try Out

During the mid seventies, punk subculture was established in Britain as a sign of teen rebellion. Rock music has also heavily influenced punk fashion. Punk style in the fashion and makeup industry has always been around. Smudged smokey eyes, dark lips and distressed apparel will always look stylish and trendy, thanks to punk culture and modern fashion designers and makeup artists. Rocking punk style is never easy, so here's our top edgy and daring looks.

ESSENTIAL SMOKEY:

Grease

A smokey eye is essential when it comes to punk rock makeup. We're not talking classic, glam smokey eyes but grungy, hazy and OTT smokey eyes with an almost messy or undone element to them.

This smokey style is bold and exaggerated and the winged shadow is flared with bold sweeps of dark color. The emphasis is almost always on the eyes with heavy smoldering eye makeup.

Rock You!

This look can be achieved with minimal products, we're talking one, maybe two eyeshadows, here or you can use greasepaint for ease of application. Think exaggerated "panda eyes" with Avril Lavigne vibes

THE DARK SIDE:

We all know nude or neutral lip color compliments a smokey eye really well and it's perfect for standout, statement smokey eyes.

Smokey X Nude Lips

But if you're really wanting to channel your inner alter ego and go dark, match your bold smokey with a dark lip - the darker the better.

BOLD COLOR:

Rock 'n Roll

If you're not into all black or all dark makeup, you can also incorporate a bright pop of color into your look. Bold color in big strokes with an artistic style will give you the same effect as the styles above.

Punk Glow

Play around with vivid blues and purple for a smoldering look or add an eccentric yellow or bright pink as an accent shade.

EMBELLISHMENTS - CHAINS, SPIKES & GLITTER:

Rockstar

The embellishments are key when it comes to punk style makeup. Metallic embellishments and silver decorations are a punk gal's best friend!

Chains & Spikes Punk Makeup

Take inspiration from punk fashion and incorporate tiny spikes, chains and studs into your look. These items are easily accessible at your local arts and crafts store.

Jazz up your look with glitter overload for an avant garde take on bold makeup.  Play around with different textures, sizes and eccentric colors.

Intense Cut Crease

If you're adding glitter to dark black makeup, you can get away with any colored glitter, here! You can even layer under bold pigmented eyeshadow for a bold color pop.

Blue & Black Punk Makeup Look

You can try glitter tears, glitter cut crease and even combine textures for a one-of-a-kind look! The glitter adds a bit of glam, dimension and the contrast between the dark eyes and lips just creates a really bold look.

EDGY EYELINER:

Violet Lashes X Geometric Liner

Exaggerated graphic liner is the element that really defines the punk style. You can also skip out on the eyeshadow if your liner is bold enough. Neutral or nude lids, a messy hairstyle and crazy eyeliner should be your new go-to look for a punk night out.

No Eyebrow Makeup

Feel free to play around with the eyeliner shape and color and remember - the sharper, the better!

DARK BOLD LIPS:

 Punk Queen Makeup

Aren't a fan of eyeliner? It can be really tricky to draw those symmetrical wings, especially if you are crunched on time (aren't we all?). Gorgeous dark and bold lip color is a great alternative to winged eyeliner and can make just as an impact as liner can! Just don't forget to prepare your lips and sharper your lip liner before applying dark lipstick. Dark lips require perfect lip contouring. Play with different shades and textures until you find a shade that's flattering on you. Spider-like lashes generously coated with black mascara, will complete this daring punk makeup look.

FAUX FRECKLES:

Sasha

An iconic, classic punk makeup look features strong eye makeup, dark lips, crazy colors but where is the blush? You won't see 'healthy' pink cheeks on punk queens. There is something else we can use instead of blusher to add dimension to the face - blinding glitter highlight or faux freckles.

BLOOD TEARS:

To add a goth element to your look, you can incorporate blood tears. This dark beauty goth look is essentially just adding the faux tears effect to make it look like your crying blood tears. These blood or vampire tears can also be incorporated into a Halloween look.

PUNK ROCK NAILS:

Creating a daring punk manicure is even easier, than you think. Take punk elements such as dark and bold colors, unusual metal embellishments, sparkly glitter or crazy prints and instantly turn your regular everyday nails into a risky punk manicure.
