Makeup Expires?!
Hey dolls,
Okay, so I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but yes, makeup does expire. Air harbors germs and bacteria and like with food, it can contaminate your makeup and cause it to go bad after a certain period of time. But DO NOT fear! I will tell you the estimate life span of your makeup and tips on how to maintain and even prolong its life span!
◆Starting from the day you open the packaging!
★Mascara- last up to 3 months
Not tossing when expired can cause pink eye, stys, puffy eyes or worse.
*Tip: Can last 6 months if you clean the wand often. This will reduce bacteria build up.
*NEVER SHARE
★Liquid Eyeliner- last 6 months max
★Pencil Eyeliner- 6-12 months
*Tip: Sharpen often to reduce bacteria build up on tip.
*NEVER SHARE
★Eyeshadows- 18-24 months
*Tip: Spray regularly with alcohol or "Beauty so Clean."
★Powder Blush/Bronzer/Highlight- 18-30 months
*Note: Loose last longer than pressed
*Tip: Spray with alcohol or "Beauty so Clean" often and always use a clean brush.
★Liquid foundation- Thin consistency last up to 12 months
Thick consistency last 12 months or more.
*Note: Oil based foundations are said to last longer than water based. Water based grow bacteria faster.
Tips: Use foundations with pumps. The pump prevent you from letting bacteria into the foundation.
★Powder foundation- Last up to 3 years!
*Tip: Use clean tool each time. Spray a couple of time a month or more with alcohol or "Beauty so Clean".
★Concealer- 12-18 months
*Tips: Do not use wand or sponge tip directing on face to preserve product. Always use clean tools with potted product to prevent bacteria build up.
★Lipsticks/ Lip-glosses- 18 months
*Tips: Apply on palette then from palette to your lips so they last longer. Do Not pump air into lipgloss, pushing in air pushes more germs.
♥To keep all your makeup fresher longer, always store in a dark, cool and dry place!♥
Not sure you even remember when you first opened your makeup? DO NOT worry, here are tell tale signs that will let you know.
IT'S TIME TO TOSS IT IF:
- Has a foul odor
- Smell completely different from first use
- Dried out
- Consistency changed
- Doesn't work as well as it use to
- Product Separation
- Discoloration
- Passed the expiration time
Fact: Makeup products are not required by law to have an expiration date on the products label.
♣ Luckily lots of companies do have an estimate expiration date. Check for a little icon of an open container that has a number on it with a letter next to it.
Example: 12m (which means expires in 12 months)
