Basic Contour and Highlight Regime How-To!

Hello Girls,

I get questions all the time regarding my cosmetic regime, so here's a quick reference with photos!

 1.) BEFORE. No Makeup!

2.) Shadow Contour and Foundation. I applied primer, moisturizer and liquid foundation. Then I contour with a foundation cream in a shade 2-3 shades darker than my own. I apply this in soft strokes, and avoid making crisp lines or over defined marks with the contour. You want this to be blendable and believable, not stage makeup. I contour on my cheekbones, along my nose, on the crease of my eye, between my eyes, the corners of my forehead and the line of my chin. There's technically no wrong way to contour on yourself. Use your shadow to sink in the features you want to accentuate with your highlight. Think in 3D terms! Here I used Revlon Photo Ready foundation cream in my shade, and 3 shades darker for the contour.

3.) Highlight Contour. I apply a cream highlight on my upper cheek bones, slightly under my contour to chisel my cheeks slightly, my brown bone, along the middle of my nose, my eyelid, the middle of my forehead, and my cupids bow ( above the lip ). This brings out the features I like, makes my face look more defined, more awake and makes my eyes and lips appear larger. Here I used Ben Nye Highlight Cream.

4) Lip Contour and Highlight. I apply foundation over my lips, to give my lipstick a true to tone application. I chose a pink color to line them with, and faded that in to the middle of my lips over the foundation. After, I applied a golden lipstick over the pink to give my lips a sun-kissed look.

5.) Blend, blend and blend! I make sure at this point that everything blends nicely by softly swirling my brush over the contour.

6.) Eyeshadow and Liner! After everything looks blended, I apply my base shadow color which was gold, my crease color which was dark brown and purple, and a highlight to the middle of my eyelid which was pearly white. I blend that, and then apply liner. I applied a dark winged liner with liquid liner.

7.) Eyebrows: After my shadow looks great, I apply my eyebrows with a brown pencil, and highlight under my arch. I then apply lip gloss and lightly powder my face for the final look!

All Done! Here's a finished photo and a comparison!
