Modern Goth: Alternative yet Wearable Palette!

Sometimes I'm sick of the same old, same old and want to try something entirely different! Who says you can't wear an intense eye with an intense lip? Break all the rules with this new Modern Goth palette that could totally be wearable at the right setting! From concerts, to parties - even street wear, this look is still fashionable with the right amount of alternative flair.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Lost - medium metallic brown (about $19.00)
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Blackout - Matte Black (about $19.00)
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner in Trooper Black ( about $19.00)
  • Kat Von D Everlasting Lipstick in Damned Black Cherry ( about $20.00 )
  • Urban Decay Naked Flushed Streak Blush Palette ( about $32.00)
  • Benefit Shy Beam Matte Liquid Highlighter (about $26.00)
  • Benefit Cosmetics They're Real Mascara in Black (about $24.00)

STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL:

  1. After applying your favorite primer and liquid foundation, apply Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Lost - medium metallic brown (about $19.00) to the entire eyelid and lower lashline. This brown is perfect because it's not too warm, too cool or too shimmery. It's the perfect compliment to this look because it won't overdo the depth of the black shadow you'll use later. Blend and smudge after you've applied it.
  2. Apply a matte black shadow such as Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Blackout - Matte Black heavily to the crease. This matte shade when applied in heavy layers, gives this look some intensity, yet doesn't overdo it to the point where the look begins to appear clownish. Blend it into your medium brown that you applied previously. Also apply this black shadow to the bottom lashline and smudge it into the brown you applied as well.
  3.  Apply a clean line of black matte liner to the upper lashline in a swift sweep. I used Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner in Trooper Black. This look would also compliment a cream or crayon black eyeliner application as well, which you could smudge to give yourself more of grungy look.
  4. Apply an intense, deep, black cherry shade to the lips. I absolutely adore Kat Von D Everlasting Lipstick in Damned, Black Cherry. This lipstick brand stays on phenomenally, and looks so clean when applied. It doesn't flake, or fade. Apply it cleanly to your lips in precise strokes to get a matte, intense lip that's up to par with current lipstick trends featured on the runway. This shade also pairs perfectly with a dark eyeshadow because it doesn't overdo the look. The hints of red in this lipstick really make the palette complete.
  5. Apply a light bronzer or contour shade two to three times darker than your skintone to the hollows of your cheeks and along your nose, slimming it. Blend, blend, blend! I love the Urban Decay Naked Flushed Streak Blush Palette because it comes with a highlighter, contour and blush that all coincide with each other and perfectly match. Streak matched my skin, but it also comes in a medium and dark palette for other skin tones. I used the contour shade out of this palette for my light contour. Due to your dark shadow, and dark lip, really try to keep it simple. I then used the blush shade in this palette on the apples of my cheeks to further accentuate my cheeks subtly. Keep it light!
  6. I didn't use the Urban Decay Naked Flushed highlighter that came in the palette, because I wanted a heavier, heavier highlight where the UD Naked Flushed palette is more natural. So, instead I used Benefit Shy Beam Matte Liquid Highlighter. I applied this heavily on my upper cheekbones to really give this look an alternative, luminescent flair.
  7. Last but not least I applied Benefit Cosmetics They're Real Mascara in Black to my lashes, heavily, in layers. Don't be shy, you definitely want your lashes to pop! You're done!
