It's used to be all about the eyes and now more than ever before, statement lips are so on trend! Almost every major manufacturer is creating bold, vivid and eye popping shades in ultra violet, mermaid inspired hues in emeralds and blues and you guessed it, black!
We often see a dark lip palette in the colder seasons during fall and winter. But who says these shades are only appropriate for that time of the year?
Bold hues in posh violet, burgundy and even black have been making an appearance during the warmer months and surprisingly, they look just as fresh as nude lips.
Dark lip color isn't easy to pull off, especially if you wear nudes all the time.
Today, we are going to learn how to pull off even the most dramatic shade of lipstick and tips on how to apply the color like a pro.
Dark lip color demands smooth and prepped lips so the first and the most important dark lip rule is lip care.
STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL:
Prep the lips:
Before applying dark lip color, you need to gently exfoliate your lips. You can use a soft toothbrush or white sugar to remove dead skin cells. After this procedure, don't forget to moisturize your lips with a lip balm. Your lips are ready for the next step!
To prevent dark lipcolor from feathering or bleeding always apply lipliner.
Lipliner keeps the edges nice and defined and it helps to create shape and fullness.
This step is mandatory if you want to rock dark lipcolor.
Line your lips with a freshly sharpened lip pencil that is one shade darker, than your lipstick. Then, fill in your lips with the same lipliner and gently blend the harsh lines with a synthetic brush.
Choosing the right shade:
Now the lips are ready for color. Try to choose a lipstick shade that will compliment your outfit and will emphasize your complexion. You can apply lipstick with a thin, angled synthetic brush which will ease the application and will help you create neat and precise edges. It also deposits the color so that it is more pigmented and fills in all the lines and wrinkles of the lips so that the lip color is more long wearing!
Conceal & Perfect:
Finally, the last and probably the most important step is concealer. Not everyone can apply dark lip color like a pro, that's where a tiny amount of concealer (or foundation) and a tiny brush comes handy!
Clean up and perfect the edges of your lips to make the lines extra sharp and you are ready to go. Wear your bold, dark, vampy lips with confidence and pride!
