New to SFX? Been trying it out for a while? This tutorial is friendly for both beginners and those addicted to messing around with SFX techniques. This Eye and Lip Bruising step by step can be used in a multitude of looks and characters and requires no 3D materials! With only TWO yes TWO products it's also very cost friendly! Check out my transformation below.

You Will Need:

  • Mehron Bruise Wheel ( about $10.80 )
  • Fake Blood ( homemade or store bought, Graftobian works well if you don't have a homemade recipe, I used my own recipe however ) it runs about $4.50 a small bottle.

Step By Step ( from upper right to left )

Step 1.) With your Mehron Bruise Wheel dab a small precision brush into your bright red shade on the wheel. Encircle the area that will looked "bruised" in a bright red circle. Do so in dabbing motions, you want certain areas to look lighter than others in your outline of your bruise. This will make it appear more realistic. Stay away from hard lines. Blend.

Step 2.) Add the yellow from your Mehron wheel to your eyelid or any other area that will look "raised" or inflamed. I added it to my eyelid, upper cheekbone, and in the high areas around my lips. Then do the opposite, and with your dark purple shade in your Mehron wheel LIGHTLY lowlight your "low" areas in your bruises, such as the hollows of your under eye, and in my case some of the ridges of my lips. Blend, blend, blend.

Step 3.) Now we're going to add irritation! Going back to your bright red, and deep red brown shades in your Mehron wheel, dab both shades randomly in soft strokes around the surrounding area of your fake bruises. Bruises usually look pretty irritated and red, but not directly ON the bruise, and more on the surrounding areas. Remember, you can always look up real bruise reference because it can really help. Just be warned, it can be pretty gruesome!

Step 4.) Create some busted open areas on the bruises by making a slash mark with your deep purple shade in your Mehron Wheel. Then, add homemade fake blood or bought fake blood to those "gashed" areas. Don't overdo the blood! We want to see the bruise! Too much blood can ruin a realistic makeup.

Step 5.) Again, with the deep purple shade, go back into your hollow areas of your bruises and really accentuate them. Realistic bruises are all about layers! Blend, and you're done!
