Q: What does makeup/beauty/fashion mean to you?

A: As a film makeup/fx artist, model, fine artist and activist, to me really it's a means all of the brilliant things that encompass imaginative expression. Cosmetic design and fashion design are distinctive forms of expression that tell a unique creative story unlike any other art form, and I am grateful to be one of those that can call themselves a cosmetic artist among many other things. You can slap on some deep purple lipstick one day and play out your inner vamp persona, or you can go with a nude palette the next. You can wear some 6 inch pumps and feel like you own the world, or some combat boots and feel ready for battle. I love how cosmetic design and fashion design can really just allow someone to get into a moment.

Q: When did you start getting into makeup/beauty/fashion?

A: I was rough and tumble at a young age, madly romping through the woods of my West Virginia hometown with my dog and never really considerate of my hair or personal style, but I loved getting into my mom’s makeup bag and smearing her red lipstick all over myself, or applying eye shadow to my unbeknownst, poor sleeping father when I wasn’t burying Barbie in the backyard. I was always inventive, maybe even a little wild, with a fascination with Bob Ross and all things colorful and adventuresome. I had no idea that my curiosity and somewhat comical pastimes would evolve into a career, and a lifelong passion for telling a detailed story or creating a character with cosmetics.

Q: What’s your first ever beauty product?

A:  That’s so hard for me to remember honestly, but I think I’ll have to go with liquid eyeliner. I’ve been applying a fine tipped cat-eye to myself before I ever knew what a cat eye was. My cosmetic look has altered considerably over the years, but my eyeliner has mostly stayed the same. It’s a love affair for sure.

Q: What’s your favorite makeup brand and why?

A: I’ll have to add two brands to this, one drugstore and one film/professional. I really love Physicians Formula as my favorite drugstore brand, and Ben Nye as my professional film brand. Makeup Forever is a close second. Physician’s Formula never fails to provide me with exactly what I was hoping for from a product fit for daily wear, and it’s natural, dermatologist approved and great for your skin. I love everything they make. Their products look natural yet glamorous, believable, smooth, and are so adaptable. I love Ben Nye for film and television because it’s also very versatile, looks great on HD platforms, and they literally have every product I would ever need as a professional entertainment MUA in one easy place. I know I can depend on a product when I purchase it from Ben Nye for my work, whether I’ve used it before or if I’m trying something fresh. I've never bought a bad product from them.

Q: Name the one makeup product you cannot live without and why?

A: Again, I’m fanatical with my liquid liner. I’m sort of a freak of nature, and don’t have eyelashes, so my eyeliner is sort of my own personal comfort product. Falsies look ridiculous on me, I can’t stand them, so my trustworthy, waterproof, liquid liner by Kat Von D always does the trick. Strictly in black. It’s always on me!

Q: What’s your best makeup tip?

A: Don’t contour your face like an oil painting. Don’t contour your face like you see someone else doing it necessarily, because you probably don’t have the same face shape. EACH contour is unique. PRACTICE your contour! A contour too heavily or sloppily done can look like you either got a bad spray tan on your face, or like you've put clown white all over your cheeks. Use shades that compliment your skin tone. You shouldn't be using an almost white highlighter if you aren't already very very light naturally, or a deep mocha bronzing contour shade if you’re very pale. If you’re a deep skin tone, try a highlighter that’s more yellow or deep orange instead of the pale white ones you sometimes see people using. You want it to look believable!

Q: What’s the one thing your viewers don’t know about you?

A: I’ve been working in the film and tv industry for five years as an MUA, FX artist, Model and Actress. I’ve worked on shows on networks like Lifetime, The History channel and more. I’ve worked with publications like Inked International and Vogue Italia! I mostly enjoy working on independent Pittsburgh films, and I’m jumpstarting my acting career. My specialties are HD beauty makeups and Prosthetic applications. I was asked multiple times to be on the show “Face Off” but I declined. I don’t really like reality TV, and I refuse to serve my personality and message up on a chopping block for a company to potentially alter or dissect.

Q: Do you have any special/hidden talents?

A:  I can sing….I think. I love to do it but I’m WAY too shy to ever let anyone see me get into a song! Which is pretty funny seeing as I’m not too shy for almost anything else!

Q: Why/When did you start posting videos/blog?

A:  I started blogging to improve my career, show my work, show what I was doing, gain networking abilities, and meet new friends.  I love sharing my work with others, learning new things, and seeing what’s trending.

Q: Who’s your biggest makeup inspiration and why?

A: My biggest inspiration cosmetically really is no one and more of a collective stimulus. I don’t really seem to get inspired by any one makeup artist, but more from circumstances, things I see in nature or on the street, a background story, or a particular occurrence. I guess that’s just the fine artist in me. I get motivated by sort of abstract concepts from daily life.
